Improvements to scanning are at the top of my Metroid Prime 4 wish list. The worse part of the prime trilogy for me were bosses with multiple phases all requiring a separate scan. One of these game breaking bugs is a classic with ice bats only being scannable for one whole entire section of the game to get full completion, there's also causing an item to despawn that you need to open up the final boss door.Honestly it depends on the game and WHY something is missable. More games need to have a system like the one in Lost Odyssey. When you are barred from reentering an area all the treasure chests you didn't open end up at the auction house for later purchase. Sadly, yes, if you miss a boss scan, you can't get it back. Gotta restart and use a guide so you don't miss any missable scans. The game should tell you your item percentage on the file select screen along with the endgame screen. 100% items is different than scans and is the only one that affects the ending.
